Troopers received a report at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, from an individual who found what they believed to be skeletal remains while walking their dog, according to Connecticut State Police

The individual reported that they found the remains in the woods near Campville Hill Road on the Harwinton/Northfield town line in Litchfield County, police said. 

Troopers located the skeletal remains about 100 feet from the roadway, and the remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be examined further, police said.

Police said the following agencies searched the area:

  • Western District Major Crime Detectives
  • State Police Search and Rescue
  • CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection

The investigation is ongoing.
